A Journey into Prehistory

The Obsidian Museum “Carlo Lugliè” is the only single-site museum facility in Europe dedicated to this extraordinary product of volcanic activity. It offers in-depth activities to visiting young men and women that include guided tours of the collection, educational workshops and visits to the archaeological area in the Obsidian Park on Mt. Arci.

For the 2025-2026 school year, different educational solutions designed by our staff experienced in archaeology and museum education are available. Excursions in the Park allow you to appreciate the natural environment and learn about the extraordinary workshops of the Neolithic period.

You can contact our liaisons to design tailor-made school field trips to the Obsidian Museum and Park in Pau.

Neolithic gestures and knowledge

the polished stone

The workshop provides an introduction to the stone-polishing technique used in the Neolithic period. Using special tools like prehistoric artisans, participants will be able to drill, smooth and decorate steatite to make their own personalized ornament, discovering, step by step, how a simple stone fragment can be transformed into a unique object.

Symbols and decorations

Neolithic art

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of prehistoric art. Each participant will experience the use of stone to “carve” the decorative and symbolic motifs that adorned monuments of the Neolithic age. An engaging journey into prehistory, where creativity and art come to life through manual skills.

Reconstructing the past

The analysis of archaeological findings

The workshop is an opportunity to understand the importance of the different professionals who collaborate with the archaeologist, such as the archaeozoologist and the archaeobotanist, who together form an extraordinary team that allows us to know and understand our past.

Shapes and faces of the past

the neolithic figurines

In this workshop, participants will discover the fascinating anthropomorphic figurines produced during the Neolithic and Copper Age, with a focus on the most common types in Sardinia. Each participant will be able to try their hand at modeling clay to create their own figurine. A creative and engaging experience to approach prehistory through art.
