Educational Workshops – The Museum Goes to School
Obsidian Museum staff members are also available to provide the Museum’s educational services at any educational institutions that may request them.
The Museum offers this particular formula of activities recognizing its high value in terms of a gradual introduction to the knowledge of obsidian matter and the complex field of reference studies, prehistory, as well as more generally in relation to the specific techniques and methodologies proper to the discipline of archaeology.

Workshops to experience gestures, knowledge and tools in use in the Neolithic: honing stone.Activity dedicated to the practice of honing. Analysis of different lithic materials and tools made by honing. Experimentation with the activity of drilling and smoothing a soft stone element.

Workshops to experience gestures, knowledge and tools in use in the Neolithic: the use of obsidian.Knowledge of the raw material, its prerogatives and uses in prehistory.Experimentation with the use of obsidian as a cutting stone and making a small leather container.

Multidisciplinary approach to the topic of human evolution in light of new scientific evidence. Fascinating journey to discover the evolution of homo sapiens through the use of life-size casts of major hominids that characterize the evolutionary history of the human species.

What happens when an archaeological excavation has concluded? How does the work of archaeologists continue, indoors in their laboratories? Hands-on activity of sorting, selecting, recognizing and cataloging artifacts simulating an excavation context of prehistoric scope.

Our education liaison staff is available to design, jointly with teachers and educators, modular pathways or specific educational projects involving multiple disciplinary meetings, to be held at school and/or museum, and to structure specifically targeted and more articulated educational activities.
