The park

of Obsidian

Park history

Obsidian Park falls within Area No. 1 of the Mount Arci Historical and Environmental Geominerary Park.

In these places, volcanic glass has been collected and processed by ancient communities into semi-finished products for export and exchange with other raw materials since the Neolithic period (about 6500 years ago).

The black trails are the custodians of an extraordinary history that tells of a very ancient doing, handed down from generation to generation for thousands of years, which it is our duty to protect and preserve.
For this reason there is a total ban on the removal of obsidian from Mt.

The Processing Workshops

The obsidian processing workshops in the Pau area currently represent the best-documented case of centers for processing the material close to the places where it was formed.

The processing center at Sennixeddu

The Sennixeddu processing center rises below the lava ridge of Sa Conca ‘e Su Cerbu, about 650 m above sea level.

The black path

The Black Trail or “Scaba Crobina” is characterized by the presence of impressive accumulations of debris and ancient processing residues.

Fragile archaeological finds

Each of the artifacts preserved in the archaeological area represents a fragment of a unique and extraordinary thousand-year history.

The protection of obsidian

Because of the inestimable scientific value each fragment holds, there is a ban on the removal of obsidian from the mount throughout the territory.
